Catholic Formation

Our Mission

Holy Cross School is a faith-centered community fostering lives of service, integrity, and life-long learning. We are committed to Catholic education founded on Gospel-centered values and the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church. We are called to be Christ for others and to see Christ in others.

School Prayer

St. Joseph
watch over
our school family
as you watched over the
Holy Family of Nazareth,
Help us to follow
your example
so that we may grow in
honor and holiness.

St. Joseph,
patron of workers,
pray for us.

Holy Cross School is dedicated to St. Joseph.

Liturgies

Our students attend Mass every Friday at 8:15 a.m. Students are involved in the planning of the liturgies as well as participating in the readings, offertory procession, and cantoring. Each Friday Mass is followed by Eucharistic Adoration. In addition, our students begin and end each day with prayer. We pray the rosary together and the Stations of the Cross during Lent. During our feast week (the week of September 14), our students participate in the Living Rosary and during Lent our 7th graders perform the Living Stations.

Our 7th graders are partnered with our kindergarten students and our 8th graders are partnered with our 1st grade students. These "prayer pals" attend Mass and other liturgies together. They form a lasting friendship through the activities they do together such as going to Skateland together, reading to each other, helping with Valentines, and various other activities throughout the school year.

Sacramental Preparation

Students in grade 2 receive the sacrament of Reconciliation in January and Holy Eucharist in early May. Parent involvement is key to the preparation for these sacraments. Parents and students work together throughout the 2nd grade year to make the reception of these sacraments as meaningful for the parents as well as the students.

Students in grade 7 begin to prepare for Confirmation in the Spring to be confirmed in the fall of their 8th grade year. This year's Confirmation will take place on Saturday, November 1. Students prepare in class as well as with their Confirmation sponsors. Prayer, reflection, study, and service are all part of the preparation.

Sacrament/Service Portfolios

Students begin creating a sacrament/service portfolio in their early years at Holy Cross School. This portfolio contains their reflections on Scripture readings, class discussions, sacraments received, and service projects performed. Students are asked to write their thoughts on these topics throughout the school year. The portfolio is passed on from year to year. By the time students receive their Confirmation as 8th graders, their portfolios will be filled with a chronicle of their faith journey and record of the service they have performed for others.
