Programs

Students in grades 5-8 participate in the House Program. This program gives students the opportunity to grow in their knowledge of themselves and their fellow Holy Cross students through activities and presentations. Each House has students from each of the four grade levels. On House meeting days, students wear their House shirts: t-shirts in the House color with the saint name on the front. Besides the activities, students can earn points each month for following school rules, being of service to others, and fulfilling the prinicpal's challenge. Students and Houses with the highest points are rewarded each month.

Scouting opportunities are are available for both boys and girls. Our boy scout Pack 75 is the oldest troop in the Champaign-Urbana area. It has produced many Eagle Scouts through its many years of history.

Eighth graders take a trip to Washington, D.C., every spring to experience first hand our government in action. This trip takes place in April after an intense study of our government and capital city.

All grade levels benefit from the many field trip opportunities available in the Champaign-Urbana area such as performances at Krannert Center and the Abraham Lincoln sites in Springfield. Field trips correspond with classroom lessons. For example, our 4th graders study a unit on Illinois history and it culminates in a trip to Springfield to visit our state government offices and the Abraham Lincoln historical sites.

Our students perform a professional quality musical every spring involving a cast of over 100 students. We are so proud to showcase the musical and acting talents of our students. Parent involvement in the spring musical is key to its success. Parents help with set building, costumes and make-up, lighting and sound, and many other aspects of our musical. Recent performances include Annie, Oliver, The Wizard of Oz, and Peter Pan.
